- Roaring Irondequoit - Commission for W. Irondequoit Foundation
Roaring Irondequoit was my contribution to Windows on Irondequoit, a charity auction in support of the West Irondequoit Foundation. The assignment was to use windows that were removed from the high school in a massive renovation in art that had something to do with the town.
I used reference photos from my grandmother's album to show my grandmother, mother and aunt with Gramma's Jordan Roadster in front of the house my grandparents built in Irondequoit. I had the window refinished and the framed painting mounted on it.
- Rough Time/Splendid Moments - Donation for Breast Cancer Coalition
Rough Time/Splendid Moments is the foot stool that tripped me and put the permanent dent in my shin. When I decided to decorate it for the Breast Cancer Coalition auction, one of my goals was to make sure it never has a chance to blend into the floor to trip anyone again.
Time and experience recorded in the "book of life" is the top metahphor. I made a matching journal to put in the storage compartment. The lid is covered with rough cast paper set with a real watch and a splendid collection of faux pearls and rhinestones. The rest is giddy collage of text and script, paint and gold, the elements of illuminated manuscripts. I dedicated it in memory of someone I knew, so I incorporated my own impresssions and memories into the design.
- Illustrations for a story bookI got tricked on this project for not asking enough questions! These are huge acrylic paintings, on half sheets of the orgura paper I used for wall art. The wide one is a full 24x39" sheet. Later, I animated them for a Christmas card.
